Karnataka : Going another step ahead to prevent the Elephants entering into the human habitat and restrict them in the forests and national parks, the Forest department of Karnataka has come up with a new master plan.
After getting success in the pilot project that was implemented at Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary near Hosur by the forest officials of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka forest department has decided to implement it at Nagarhole Tiger Reserve(NTR) soon.
The Karnataka forest officials will for the first time use the ‘Steel wires’ fence instead of the rail barricades and Solar fencing at the boundaries of the NTR to prevent the elephants from straying outside the sanctuary.
The elephants do not get sturdy bases to stand or rest on. The steel rope will bounce back and this will confuse the animal. The elephants will not even get a grip to climb over the ropes. Dr Mahesh Kumar, director, NTR said that he sought the permission from the higher authorities to implement this at Nagarhole reserve.
