The reply to the Right To Information (RTI) query revealed shocking information  that about 35 deers died in the period of July to December in 2021 at the premises of IIT-Madras located in the ecologically sensitive area. Ironically, the autopsy process conducted to only 15 among the dead deers.

The wildlife division of Tamil Nadu has given this answer to the RTI query of Animal  rights activist Ashvin Kumar. In the period of July to December, 2021, a total of 31 spotted deers and four Sambar’s have died. The shocking is that about 11 deers died in December month alone.

According to the study reports, four deers died by the eating plastic and polythene bags. The plastic bags consumed by these deers damaged the digestive system of the deers. While two deers died by dog bite.
The IIT-Madras told that about 55 deers were killed by the dogs in the year 2019-20 and this number was 96 in 2018.

However, the animal rights activist has alleged that IIT-Madras is not bothered to maintain the sensitiveness of the environment and ecology it has while improving its infrastructure.
