Karnataka : In view to draw attention of people to bird watching, develop an interest among the young wildlife enthusiasts, and showcase the rich biodiversity in the forests, the Karnataka forest department and Karnataka Ecotourism development board has organised the eighth edition of ‘Karnataka Bird Festival’ at Madikeri from April 8 to 10, 2022.
The department organises this festival at different locations, region, biodiversity and a different bird is focussed every year all just to increase awareness and ensure better conservation measures are taken. This Baza bird has been selected to focus.
It is a migratory bird from the eastern Himalayas, China and SouthEast Asia. Forest officials of the region have reportedly sighted a couple of the birds now, in the onset of summer.
The forest officials said that the festival was postponed because of the increase in the COVID19 cases. The location in Madikeri was chosen because of the rich bio-diversity and possibility of sighting many other species as well. Baza bird was chosen because it is sighted in winters in the region.
Forest minister Umesh Katti will be inaugurating the festival which will comprise about six to seven different trails. It will also cover Madikeri city.
