Chattisgarh : The increasing deaths of the wildlife in Chhattisgarh is worrying. A female sloth bear died after being hit by a vehicle at Ambikapur-Bilaspur national highway-130 on Wednesday. An unknown vehicle hit the bear while it was crossing the road.
Similarly, two black deer were killed in the forests of Kasadol in Baloda Bazar district. One black deer which was stranded in the village was attacked by the stray dogs while another black deer died due to indigestion at Barnawapara reserve forests.
Range forest officer Durgesh Singh and his team after seeing a dead sloth bear said that it was about three year old and might have been killed after hitting a four wheeler. They cremated the bear at a nursery in Udaipur.
In a bid to conserve and protect the rare black deers, the forest department had brought about 49 black deers from Pendari forests of Bilaspur about four years ago and left them in the Baranvapara forests. In this period, the number of deers was increased to 80. However, the death of two deers in two seperate locations has created threat of decreasing the number of these rare black deers.
