St.paul’s High School Belgaum Covid support team and Facebook friends Circle gifted 22 Rain Jackets of WildCraft, One football, one carrom board, One Lagoori set, Four skipping ropes to little children of forest dwellers at Amagaon Village in Khanapur Taluka. Amgaon village is the wettest village of Karnataka and situated on Jamboti Road near Goa border. As there is no proper road connectivity to reach the village, One has to reach this village by walk for around 6 to 8 km in a Jungle and in-between there is a River.
Paulites-the alumni of St Pauls School, last Sunday(27 June) had visited Amagaon to distribute Grocery kits. The little children and their parents have asked the volunteers to support the budding children. the NGOs soon provided them Storybooks, Books that describe Indian Culture, Books of stories of great leaders and freedom fighters, Drawing books, Comic books etc .
The population of this small village is around 450 members and nearly 90 families are living in the village. As there is no permanent bridge to cross the river to reach the village. Villagers face a lot of difficulties and make any earnings for survival. Most of the time the river is flooded due to heavy rainfall as it’s in the deep jungles of Khanapur. The elderly children of this village are settled in hostels in Khanapur or in Londa for higher education as there is no connectivity to the village. But due to the COVID situation, all the children have returned home. Farming is the main occupation of these villagers and few youngsters go for jobs either to Belgaum or Goa State. Most of the time there is a power failure in the village and villagers light oil lamps at night. Realizing these problems, the St. Paul’s High School Covid Team and Facebook Friends Circle have come forward to extend their help to these children.
Principal Father Dr Savio Abreu SJ, Vice Principal Sebastian Pereira, Father Santosh, Sanjay DSouza, Tr Mariamma Nigam, Dr Meghana H, and Sejal Bidlani participated and distributed the materials to the students. Facebook friends circle team members Santosh Darekar, Ajith Kulkarni, Victor Francis, Kiran Nippanikar, Ma Shaboddin Bombaywale, Pramod Sharma, Sanjay Anavekar, George Rodrigues, Vinayak Dhamanekar & Suraj Anvekar, Chetan Halsikar. Amagaon Villagers Head Datta Gawade, Manohar Gadi, Shantaram Gawade, Bomanna Gavas, Nilesh Ghadi, Nilu Gawas, Arjun Gawaden were present.
