Karnataka(Belagavi): Green Saviours Assocation of Belagavi planted a total 900 fruit trees across15 village in schools Khanapur taluk in Belagavi district of Karnataka in the Western Ghats. 15 groups of members conducted the planting simultaneously across all sites to mark the 75th Independence Day celebration in India.
We are grateful to Deputy Director of Public Instruction(DDPI) Anand Pundalik, Belagavi, Shri Yakkundi, Block Education Officer, Khanapur and Leelavathi Hiremath, Education Officer, Midday Meals section. Produce from these trees will be the nutrients supplement in the midday meals for children at these schools.
The project is the beginning of our outreach to the villages and larger planting drives will be undertaken across these villages in order to accomplish ecological restoration using fruit and non-fruit trees of the native species. This is part of our One Million Greens Project under which we will be adding a million trees to the Western Ghats in the coming five years said Green Saviors team.
