India: The humans can think that the year 2021 is worst only for them, but this year has turned very bad for the big cats too. Yes, a total of 94 tigers and 310 leopards have died in India in the year 2021.
According to the website of the National Tigert Conservation Authority of India (NTCA), The big cats have died in more numbers in the first six months of 2021 compared to the first six months of 2020. Among 94 tigers, the death of 40 tigers is natural. About 25 tigers have been hunted by the poachers, 19 have been killed in the tiger’s territorial fights, 9 tigers have been killed in road accidents. Two were killed during treatment, one tiger shot killed by a bullet and another tiger died in a fight with another animal.
While talking about the leopards, 310 leopards have died in the first six months of this year. 102 leopards become victims of poaching, 95 died naturally, 47 killed in a road accident, 22 killed by the villagers claiming that the leopard attacked on their village, 25 leopards died in the fights with leopards, 5 shot dead by the humans, two killed by electrocuting, 8 killed by other animals and 4 killed during the rescue operation.
It is notable that Madhya Pradesh state in India has witnessed the highest mortality rate of tigers. Maharashtra topped in the death list of Leopards. The Wildlife Protection Society of India(WPSI) an NGO working to combat the wildlife trade and law enforcement has compiled the half-yearly data of big cats mortality and expressed concern on increase in the deaths of tigers and leopards.
