International forest day: Why conserve forests????

The International Forest day is observed on March 21 in all the countries. This day is observed to raise awareness among the people about the importance, significance and contribution of forests in making a healthy ecosystem and to make the life cycle of humans balanced.

The theme of this year’s forest day is “Forests and sustainable production and consumption”. Apart from raising awareness, the main objective behind celebrating the day is to ‘celebrate the importance of all types of forests’ as they play an essential role in providing food, water and shelter.

The important reasons to celebrate the day is

Deforestation can damage the ecosystem and affect all kinds of life forms in forests.

Forests are the key influencers for important weather events such as rainfall.

Humans need oxygen to breathe and survive. Trees are the sources which play a significant role in our lives as they give oxygen. But, tree cutting for various reasons affects human life.

Trees are known for having medicinal benefits. They are treasure troves for medicine.
