Karnataka: A baby elephant died after touching the Solar electric fencing at Kodagu district of Karnataka state on July 18.
About eight years old male baby elephant unknowingly went in contact with the solar electric fencing that was installed to the agricultural farm at Morikallu village in Areyuru taluk in Somawarpete and died.
It is the death of the second elephant by electric shock in past one week in Karnataka. A 42-year-old female elephant that was roaming in search of food was tried to enter the farm at Gundupete of Hassan district and died by electric shock of the fencing.
The forest officials have visited the spot and have started an investigation. The human-wildlife conflict is on rising day after day in the country. The policies of the government turned ineffective to control these incidents resulting in mortality of wildlife.
In another incident, a wild tusker aged 40, found dead in suspicious condition in a private estate area at Dhanugala village in Virajpeth taluk in Kodagu district of Karnataka
The Forest officials visited and observed the carcass of the wild elephant. After, the post mortem, doctors have suspected that the elephant might have died of a heart attack.
