According to the ‘New Indian Express report, about 58000 yaks are found in India at the high land states Arunachal Prades, Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh, and Ladakh. The farmers here choose these bovine species as they are susceptible to inclement weather conditions due to climate change, diseases, attacks by wild animals, etc.

According to the report, 500 Yaks had died in 2019 alone in Sikkim state due to the heavy snowfall. Now, the Insurance policy will shield the yak farmers against the risk and loss.
